First we would like to thank all the churches and community that assisted us in putting this production on! We couldn’t have done it without you!

This post is really for all of you who were impacted by Final Exit! Please comment your testimony or email IHOPE at info@ihopehop.org to let us know how God changed you! 430 people made the initial commitment to give their hearts to the Lord because of Final Exit! We also heard a testimony of a woman who cancelled her abortion and flushed $800 worth of drugs down the toilet! Please be praying for each of these 430 that were moved to give their hearts to God, and for the 100′s of others who had a seed placed in their heart!

Final Exit Casting

Final Exit is hosting their final casting call at the old Factory Outlet building in Waterloo. The address 1150 Flammang Dr. They need about 65 more volunteers to pull off this powerful presentation. There are speaking and non-speaking roles available. People are also needed to serve on intercessory and evangelistic teams. Many volunteers are needed to spread out the work load of this event. Please spread the word and volunteer- we appreciate your help!

Righteousness and Holiness Part II

“To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: ‘Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about (or “to) himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men- robbers, evildoers, adulterers- or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’” Luke 18:9-13

The Pharisee, in striving after legalistic righteousness, became totally fixed upon his own achievements. Notice how his prayer was mostly about what distinguished him from other people- or what he perceived “set him apart” or made him holy. This man was fixed upon a skewed definition of holiness- that the primary purpose of him following the ways of God was to NOT be like other people.

When we, like the Pharisee in this parable, see Christianity as mostly about saying “no” to sin in order to be different from the world- we end up with our eyes fixed upon ourselves. Jesus implies in the text that when the Pharisee “prayed” in the temple- he was the only one who heard his own prayer- God did not listen! What a foolish idea- that a man would pray to himself!

The tax collector, the sinner, he knew who he was and what he had done. In humility, he barely came into the temple courts and cried out to God for mercy- and God heard him. This man recognized that his way of life was not righteous compared to God’s ways.

All of us, whether there is willful sin manifested in our life or not, are lowly and impoverished compared to God. When we take an honest look, not just at our outward behavior or words, but also the thoughts and attitudes of our hearts, we see that we are not like God- we are not righteous.

The acknowledgment of our spiritual poverty is the beginning of righteousness. Emptying ourselves of ourselves, there is finally space to be filled with His righteousness. A righteousness given us not by our own merit, but by the mercy of God.

“But now a righteousness from God, apart from the law, has been made known, to which the law and the prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.” Romans 3:21

Righteousness and Holiness (Part I)

Righteousness and Holiness are 2 different concepts closely related but distinct from one another.

Righteousness means to follow the law of God, or the way of God. Or in biblical language- “to walk in the narrow way”. Jesus gives the parameters for this righteous way of living when he simplifies the entirety of the law of God:

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40

Holiness means to be set apart, distinct from, or different. God is totally “other than” and therefore holy. God has crafted humanity in His image, so, God also desires for us to be set apart- Holy.

The way that holiness and righteousness relate to one another is this:

Holiness is the Goal. Righteousness is the way to the Goal. Righteousness is the path to holiness.

Keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, we walk in Him on the narrow way (Jesus said that He is “the Way”- John 14:6) as we are led by our supernatural Helper and Counselor, the Holy Spirit. As we walk in the ways of God, led by the Spirit, we become more like God. We become holy. We become as we were made to be from the beginning: in the image of the Holy God.

Immersed Intensive – June 2011

Today was the LAST day of our FIRST Immersed Intensive! God really began to reveal Himself in new and powerful ways that really touched the hearts of our attenders. But we’ll just let the people speak for themselves! Here is what they had to say:
